InternetCAR Project
Introduction
Now, the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) attracts many people's concern. ITS is the general term of the field which considers a car, a man, and a road as one system, and builds an efficient road traffic system. Various things, such as Car Navigation, Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS), Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) are positioned in ITS.
ITS can be divided into 2 fields. One is greatly advanced by government initiative, and another is advanced by private sector initiative. About the things that need plant-and-equipment investment like ETC, Advanced Cruise-Assist Highway System (AHS) are being progressed by government initiative. And the things that are unnecessary with plant-and-equipment investment like Car Navigation are being progressed by private sector initiative.
As the social computerization progressed, the strong needs from the information industry to ITS came out. The demand of "wanting to use the car's information by the computer network" could be a natural thing from the flow of the present society. We have proposed the InternetCAR as a system for satisfying these needs.
The Internet car is a framework for treating a car as a node on the Internet. We have a viewpoint from the Internet information system in order to carry out how to connect a car to the Internet, how to acquire the car's information via the Internet, what mechanism is required to exchange the information between the cars and so on. In this ITS field, we can provide some business chance to the people who have difficulties to enter into the information industry venture. Thereby, the Internet car may serve as a growth catalyst of a private sector ITS.
Our desire is to build a more wonderful automobile information environment by the spread of the InternetCARs.
